Holiday Bag Project: Provide Two Weeks’ Worth of Food for Local Utah Kids

Access to food is everything for a kid.

They need energy to support physical activities—sports, playtime, learning, and social interactions. On the cognitive end, nutrition—or lack thereof—makes or breaks a child’s ability to concentrate, learn, and succeed academically.

Sadly, many households lack enough food to provide consistent, nutritious meals—one in nine Utah children face the pain and stress of hunger. Regardless of the reason behind this injustice—be it the loss of a parent, unemployment, or other economic challenges—countless children rely on in-school meals as their main source of nutrition.

But schools aren’t open 24/7.

Give back to hungry kids this holiday season

Fortunately, USANA Kids Eat is here to fill in those gaps. Since December of 2019, our local charitable organization has provided tens of thousands of meals for hungry Utah children—and a lot of our local USANA Health Sciences employees helped make it happen. They’ve packed bags at the USANA Kids Eat warehouse, delivered the much-needed food, and/or donated your hard-earned money.

Every little bit helps, but over the holidays food-insecure kids could always use a bit more.

If you and your family are looking for a fun, meaningful way to serve the community this season, the annual USANA Kids Eat Holiday Bag Project is an easy and safe way to make an impact. Just ask USANA Customer Service Representative Susan Andrus. She and her sister were more than happy to do their part last year.

“We don’t want to see kids go without food when they’re off for the holiday season—or any time of the year,” Susan says. “Vital nutrition is so important. I love seeing the smiles on their faces—the gratitude—and the opportunity to serve fills my heart with joy.”

Back in 2022, this generous initiative provided more than 4,100 bags—that’s 164,000 meals—to 40 different schools across the Beehive State.

How to sign up for the Holiday Bag Project

We provide the bags, you provide the food, pack the pantry bag, and deliver them to the school! This is both a service and a donation all in one, and it’s a fantastic way to support hungry kids in Utah through holiday school closures.

To participate:

Please read the application details carefully and fill out all the information. Download the project instructions for all the info you need!

After filling out the application, you’ll receive a confirmation email with additional details on how to sign up for a school, pick up bags, shop for food, assemble the bags, and then deliver them to the school.

“The smallest act makes a huge impact for these kids,” Susan says. “My sister and I definitely plan on participating again this year and hope to recruit a few more people along the way!”

This is a significant way to help give back to the local community during the holiday season. If you have any questions, reach out to USANA Foundation Administrative Coordinator Ashlyn Ahrendsen.
